Wrap Up & Results - Western Metro Track & Field Carnival 22/23

21 Feb 2023 by Anita Greig

Last weekend, 50+ Sth Melb athletes converged upon Goldsworthy Athletic Facility in Corio for the 22/23 Western Metro Regional Carnival. We were lucky to have perfect weather conditions across the 2 full days of track and field events that encompassed ages 9 through to 17.
That set the scene for some outstanding results from SMDLAC – boy oh boy did our athletes reach for those PB’s! Congratulations to our amazing athletes who achieved medals, PB’s and stepped up with courage to compete against athletes from other centres. Better luck next year to our athletes who had to miss out due to injuries or illness, we missed you on the weekend. This Thursday our athletes will find out if their performance at the regional carnival has qualified them to compete in the State Track & Field Champs in March. We have everything crossed for you all.

Our parents also stood up to the task of volunteering over the weekend, for every event our athletes enter into we get assigned a duty. What we saw was some parents going over and above and stepping in to help others and fill many of our gaps and take our equipment back to Melbourne. So proud to be part of such a great community. Thank you to everyone especially those who did more than you needed to, you know who you are. Rob and Dan – couldn’t have asked for more helpful Team Managers, what legends.

A full list of results can be found if you scroll below, however it would be remiss not to mention that we did have a few results that ended up in protests to what we perceived were errors in WMR recording of results, timing gates and processes in re running a race. Some of these are still unresolved, so the below results may change as we get through the processes. (Side note; it is always a good idea to film or photograph your athletes track races for this reason).

A few athletes that scored multiple medals:
Jasper Louey U15B, entered 5 events and came home with GOLD for all 5.
