About the Club

South Melbourne Districts Little Athletics Centre (SMDLAC) is  affiliated with Little Athletics Victoria (LAVic) which has been established for over 50 years, with more than 20,000 children participating across Victoria in more than 100 centres or clubs. SMDLAC became the 106th centre to be established and is part of the Western Metropolitan Region of Little Athletics Victoria.

We are a community based club, established in 2006/2007 by an enthusiastic group of local parents. SMDLAC is one arm of the South Melbourne District Sports Club (https://www.smdsc.com.au/) and it could never have begun without the support of our parent club committee. South Melbourne District Sports Club is the largest and most established community-based organisation in the Albert Park Reserve.

In the early years our athletes competed on grass on ovals in Albert Park. In 2011 following negotiation with we became tenants of Victoria's world-standard athletics venue, Lakeside Stadium, when it opened in 2011. We are incredibly privileged to have the ongoing use of this wonderful track.

At SMDLAC it is all about fun! Our aim is to develop skills, confidence and fitness across a range of track and field events. Little athletics is open to all children aged 5-17 years. Little Athletics Victoria offer Multi Class events (for children with disabilities) at State events, specifically to cater for all types of athlete.

Our summer season runs from October to March, with centre competitions operating most Sundays 8:20 to 11:30am (with younger age groups starting & finishing earlier).   Coaching for various events are mid-week.  Refer to our Calendar for our detailed schedule. https://smdlac.teamapp.com/eve...
