Parents - How to Help

Little Athletics is a CO-OPERATIVE VENTURE

Every parent plays an important part of the SMDLAC Community; without your help there would not be anyone to conduct the events for our children. Little Athletics is not a drop off activity. During the Little Athletics Season, you will be asked to volunteer to perform duty inclusive of:

•  Sunday Centre competition meets duties:

    – Competition Set-up
    – BBQ duties
    – Finish line Marshal
    – Competition Pack-up
• Sunday Centre competition - Age Group Manager role and event support such as measuring and raking pits
• Volunteering duties assigned to SMDLAC where your children is competing at LAVIC events.

Your volunteering will ensure athlete eligibility for end of year SMDLAC Centre Awards, with sign-ups done via https://www.signupgenius.com/g...

No special skills are required other than to be open to learning new experiences and to be there to encourage the children.

Roles include:

Age Group Managers /Helpers - making sure the children get to all their activities on time, recording measurements, ensuring that they remain as a group and ensuring children visit the bathroom in pairs and providing general supervision.

Event Assistant - eg. Assisting at a particular ares/event such as finish line high jump, long jump, discus etc. Each field event requires a minimum of 2-3 adults to run the event.  Rules / guidelines for all events are in the folders provided.

Dedicated Volunteer Roles– please advise via email to smdlac@gmail.com if you are able to support as

• Starters - we requires a pool of volunteers who are able assist with starting track races

• Coaches -  Parents with athletic / coaching expertise to identify themselves to the committee to assist with coaching (especially during our Sunday morning competition)

• First Aid  - Any parents with a current First Aid certificate and/or a health professional are keenly sought to be assist as First Aid officers.

With current Child Safety Legislation, not only do the committee, coaches, starters and First Aid need to have current Working with Children Checks, but it is ideal that as many parents as possible also have current WWC. If you don't already have one it is suggested that you obtain one. Please send a copy of your WWC to registrar@smdlac.org.au

The Little Athletics Victoria website now lists a number of online resources aimed at supporting parents and volunteers to assist in running their weekly competition days. Resources include videos, event cards and downloadable documents.
