Weekly Training Schedule & New Coach

Hello members and welcome to season 2019/20.

I hope you enjoyed the first day of competition for those in attendance.

This year we are introducing a new training program for our U9-U16 Little Athletes.

There will be a range of sessions available each week with a focus on developing some core skills, fitness and having some fun.

Most of you will know our resident coach, Shaun Bassett, from either his squad or from previous years at the club. Shaun will continue to provide his speed and sprints session along with a new session focussed on core strength.

Another stalwart of our club, Judy, will be returning to provide weekly throws coaching. Luckily we will still have access to the outside throws area at Lakeside throughout the track redevelopment.

We’re delighted to introduce Sam Spicer as a new addition to our coaching team. Sam is currently employed by Athletics Australia and has accreditations as IAAF Kids’ Athletics Coach, Youth Aths Leader, L2 Intermediate Club and L1 Community Aths Coach. As a current elite runner, Sam is a member of the Melbourne Track Club, one of the elite running groups in Australia.

Sam will be taking a mid-week middle distance session throughout the season focussing on coaching for 400m, 800m & 1500m events.

Dates and locations are in the calendar up until we break for Christmas and we intend to start the program tomorrow Monday 7th October.

It is important that we support the coaches as they are giving up their time to help us out, travel and plan for the sessions they are taking.

Please check the season calendar and it is imperative that you go into the session you are intending to take your child too and reply that you are attending (yes or no).

If a coach sees that no one has replied he/she will assume that no one is turning up and potentially cancel the session so as to not waste their time.
